AEDs Are Critical For First Responders
Fire rescue departments and emergency medical service professionals must always be prepared to deal with the unexpected. A common emergency they often respond to is someone suffering from sudden cardiac arrest. During cardiac arrest, the heart stops beating abruptly and without warning. When this happens, blood stops flowing to the brain and vital organs. Uncoordinated electrical activity, called ventricular fibrillation, causes the heart to malfunction. During ventricular fibrillation, the heart twitches ineffectively and fails to pump blood to the rest of the body. Unless immediate treatment is provided, death occurs within minutes. AEDs combat the process of ventricular fibrillation by delivering an electric current to the heart, stopping all activity. This disruption, caused by the current, causes the heart to resume beating normally.1
With so many lives hanging in the balance, and precious little time to spare, it is of the utmost importance that those who are first on the scene during a cardiac crisis have the equipment necessary to save victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Along with law enforcement officers, fire rescue and EMS professionals are often the first trained responders to arrive during a medical emergency. By outfitting all fire rescue and EMS vehicles with AEDs, we can help ensure people receive the medical attention they vitally need when they desperately need it. When equipped with an easy-to-use American AED portable defibrillator, our first responders, fire rescue, and EMS professionals are better prepared to administer critical care to cardiac arrest victims.
American AED portable defibrillators are necessary equipment for EMS professionals because they bolster the likelihood of survival among sudden cardiac arrest victims. American AED’s innovative portable defibrillators can restore a heart’s normal rhythm more effectively than CPR alone, and help ensure a faster, more effective response to heart-related medical emergencies.
American AED’s portable defibrillators are essential for Fire Rescue and EMS professionals because:
- They are easily transported to a variety of locations where transporting larger equipment would be impractical, if not impossible.
- They are small enough to effortlessly fit into emergency vehicles where space is always at a premium.
- They are vastly more effective than CPR alone.
- They are easy-to-use, requiring minimal training.
- Their low-cost allow them to be purchased on even the tightest budget.
- They save lives.
